March Update

Greetings Triad Hokies!  Spring is in the air! (can’t you just feel it?)

We’ve been busy over the last few weeks filling out the calendar with a lot of upcoming activities.  Any one or all of these events are your chance to get out and show your Hokie spirit!

The first item on the calendar is our monthly meeting on April 8th.  We’ll be meeting at the new JP Looney’s in Kernersville this time around.  Come out and help us finalize some of the details for the next few events.

That weekend we’ll be a hosting a special event for newly accepted students to Virginia Tech.  This is their chance to come talk with local alumni, other prospective students, and members of the admissions staff.  If you’d like to take part in this, please contact Jim Goff prior to April 12th.

After that, we jump to the annual Orange & Maroon Dinner on April 30th at the Doubletree off High Point Road.  This year’s guests are expected to be new Wide Receiver’s coach Aaron Moorehead and Athletics Director Jim Weaver.

Kate Lehmkuler is heading up this year’s Hokies for the Cure team benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation on May 4th.  We hope to keep growing our presence year over year at this great event dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer.  In case you’re wondering, yes, pink is a great accent color with Chicago Maroon.

Divine Llama VineyardsImmediately following the Komen Race, Tom Hughes is hosting a “VT Alumni Day at Divine Llama Vineyards“.  We’ll be having an afternoon picnic starting at 12:30, with the option to visit the tasting room or go on a “Llama Trek”.  Reservations are required to attend, but you don’t need to eat our food – feel free to bring your own!
May 31st will be our Hokies Night at the Dash event.  That’s a Friday night, so weather permitting, it’s a Fireworks Friday!  Tickets to the game are just $10 and include a program and Dash baseball cap.

There are several long-term events that we’re still in the planning stages for in late summer.  The first of which is our annual “New Student Picnic”, which is tentatively set for August 8th at Triad Park.  Once we’ve finalized the details, we’ll be sending out all the details.

The other event promises to be very exciting – “Virginia Tech Day at Virginia International Raceway“.  This is a partnership event with several of the other chapters surrounding the raceway.  The even that weekend will be the “Chump Car World Series 24-hours at VIR” – plenty of racing when we’re not having tailgate competitions with other chapters and schools, tours of the facility, etc.  Again, once details are finalized, we’ll get out the information to you.
