Important announcements VT 2/3/2011

Hello Virginia Tech Alumni!

I have a few announcements to let folks know about.

Our annual speaker event will feature Jack Davis, current Dean of Architecture at Virginia Tech. We will have a wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres prior to the event. He will be sharing highlights of the past "Lumenhaus" projects done by students at Virginia Tech. The most recent edition of the solar house "Lumenhaus"  won the international competition last year and was on display at the lower end of the drillfield last fall. The event will be on Thursday evening, February 24th at the Volvo Training Facility at 7990 National Service Road at the Hwy68/airport exit off I-40. The cost to attend is $10 per person. Wine will be available for purchase at $5 per glass. Soft drinks wiil be available at no charge. The social will begin at 6PM. We will be partnering with the local AIA Chapters and the Piedmont Triad Partnership for this event. A flyer will be mailed and also will be posted on the website so that you can send in your form to reserve a space. I am very excited about this event and hope we will have a great turnout by our chapter.

VT will be playing WFU in baseball on April 8,9 and 10th in Winston-Salem. We will have Tech fans in attendance.

The Women’s ACC Basketball Tournament will be held in Greensboro on March 3-6. Volunteer opportunities are available. If interested call Mark Whitehouse at 852-8822 for details.

The Men’s ACC Basketball Tournament will be held in Greensboro from March 10-13.

Our next Alumni meeting will be held this coming Monday, Feb 7th at 6PM at the Fatz Restaurant at 619 S. Regional Road near the Greensboro Airport. The social half hour begins at 5:30. Come out and network. No cost to attend or to be active in the alumni association.

We are planning a special outing on April 21st to meet at a location to be announced in the Triad with representatives of the new VT Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute (VTC). Please mark your calendars as we learn more about this exciting new venture by our University.

The Komen Race for the Cure is on Saturday, May 7th in Winston-Salem. Plan to walk with us in this important event to raise money for a cure for breast cancer.
